Archaeology Live from Somerset
Time Team returned to DINNINGTON to attempt answer some of the outstanding questions and mysteries posed by the last dig in 2002. Why is the villa so large? Was it simply the country residence of a very wealthy Roman or was it something more? Who lived there? What did it look like? When was it built and what happened to it... did it really burn down in a dramatic fire, as the previous dig hinted at?

UNSETTLED WEATHER BUT THE DIG GOES ON...

Dr David Neal, mosaic expert uncovers a beautiful floor mosaic at the large villa in Dinnington, Somerset... many of the coloured stones are, he believes, from local sources.
Much of the large under floor stone has been robbed from the site in the post roman period, so a painstaking reconstruction will
be necessary to reproduce the original design. Ironically, David has only recently published his book on all known mosaics designs...oh well another appendix will now be needed!
